Classic collimators have almost no magnification or have a one-to-one magnification. They transmit the same image. They also do not improve accuracy in shooting, but they are an aid in close range shooting or fast aiming and firing. Many armed forces use collimators on short guns because the number of hits on target is much, much higher in percentage terms than with mechanical sights. Also in competitive shooting, collimators are used on short guns for these very reasons. The larger the the larger the red aiming point, the faster the target is sighted in and thus the faster the shooting. Also shotgun shooters guns use collimators. These are ideal when hunting pheasants or ducks, deer, some people use collimators also in sport shooting, e.g. trap, skeet and asphalt or asphalt pigeon shooting.
