The AD-15 is based on a patented original by American knifemaker Andrew Demko, who has developed countless models for Cold Steel and is also the developer of the patented Tri-Ad Lock™, the most secure dorsal lock of all time. The new AD-15 offers one-handed opening and closing of the knife. The Spear Point blade shape, with its distinctive blade belly and hollow ground edge, gives the knife exceptional cutting performance. The uniqueness and distinctiveness of this factory produced AD-15 knife lies primarily in Andrew's new locking patent, the "Scorpion Lock". On this light version of the knife, the bottom of the handle is injection molded Griv-Ex™ material instead of the costly 3D CNC machining used on the standard AD-15. The upper part of the handle, called the "yoke", is formed from 3D machined 6061 aluminum. This seat is wedged against the locking pin when the knife is opened and is pulled against it by a strong compression spring. To open the knife, simply apply thumb pressure to the pin and watch the saddle swing upward off its axis until the locking pin engages in a deep notch. Thanks to the constant pressure of the spring, as well as your hand, the Scorpion Lock is virtually immune to failure! When closing the knife, on the contrary, your fingers lift the saddle and thus release the blade to close. The blade of the knife is made of Japanese AUS 10A steel. This martensitic, stainless steel has very good strength properties and is mainly used as a material for cutting tools. Compared to AUS 8A it holds the edge better and is more resistant to abrasion. The steel has then been heat treated for the perfect balance between edge holding and easy re-sharpening.
