The twisting makes the short hairs of cotton stand out, creating a much stronger yarn with a noticeably softer feel, the more the fibres are twisted the stronger and softer the yarn.
Advantages of ring spun over a regular cotton t-shirt: a 200Gsm regular cotton t-shirt can be heavier than 165Gsm ring spun cotton, but a Ring spun cotton t-shirt can be more durable and definitely much softer.
